Audie Staton Cordie Mitchell, Sr.

Audie Staton Cordie Mitchell, Sr., 77, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away on November 2, 2021. He was born in Marshall County, Alabama, on December 3, 1943, to Cordie and Martha Gregory Mitchell.

Audie was one of eleven children and he and his siblings attended Holly Pond School. After graduation, he began his career in custodial services at Holly Pond School. Mr. Mitchell was a kind man, and he made life for the students much better – even when, as children, they did not understand the gift that they had in Audie. He tirelessly cleaned up the messes of the children, and he never complained about doing it day after day. Audie was also a supporter of the students in their athletic teams. He was a proud fan of the Holly Pond football team, and he cheered the students on in other sports too. Mr. Mitchell gave forty-three years of his life to the Bronco family, where he quietly loved and supported generations of Holly Pond families. Audie enjoyed his life outside of the school as well. He and his wife had two beautiful children and he loved and cherished them both. He enjoyed gardening and reading in his spare time, and he loved his animals too. Mr. Mitchell had a talent with air and refrigeration projects and was certified in repair in the field. Audie was a proud grandfather, and he enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of Holly Pond First Baptist Church and he enjoyed worshiping with his friends and neighbors. Audie made an impact on the life of many people, and he will be missed by many.

Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Christina Mitchell; and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Joyce Mitchell; son, Audy Mitchell, Jr., and his wife Mary Grace; grandchildren, Karli Grace Mitchell, and Austin Tyler Mitchell; brothers, Rickey Mitchell and his wife Debbie; Marshall Mitchell; and sisters, Paulette Denney, Karen Rowell and her husband Mark.

Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell are 2 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2021, in the chapel of Holly Pond Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Zion Grove Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family, at the funeral home, on Saturday evening, November 6, 2021, from 6 p.m., until 8 p.m.
