In Loving Memory of Betty Jean Benefield

Betty Jean Benefield, 88, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Born on June 5, 1936, in Cullman to Otis and Alma Crumbley, Betty lived a life filled with love, compassion, and a deep sense of community.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, always putting others first and offering a helping hand whenever needed. She spent her career in the banking industry, where she earned the respect of all who knew her for her honesty, integrity, and hard work. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she was an active and devoted member of her church, always ready to lend a hand and serve others.

Above all, Betty was dedicated to her family. She created a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt loved and valued. Her famous sausage gravy and home-cooked meals were a beloved tradition, and she took great joy in gathering her family around the table. Betty’s love for gardening was reflected in her beautiful flowers and vegetables, which she lovingly tended to and shared with friends and family.

Betty had a passion for the holidays, especially Christmas, and she poured her heart into creating festive, joyful memories. Her home was always beautifully decorated, and her collection of Holiday Barbies reflected her love for tradition and family. Every holiday season was made extra special with her spirit of hospitality and love.

She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Charles; her children, Karen Perry, Kandace Phares (David), and Charles Kevin Benefield (Suzanne); and her grandchildren, Nick (Lindsey) Perry, Lauren (Mitch) Todd, Tre Benefield, Sydney Phares, Elle Benefield, Eli Phares, and Henri Benefield. Betty also leaves behind her great-grandchildren; Acelyn, Ryne Parker, Rhett, Avie, Rhys, Nolan, Charlie Grace, and Charlotte Rose.

She is also survived by her sisters, Peggy (Billy) Ray and Judy (Ronald) Jones. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Alma Crumbley, and her brothers, Kyle Crumbley and Ronald Crumbley.

Betty’s life was a testimony to her faith, kindness, and the love she had for her family and community. She gave selflessly, with a gentle spirit and a loving heart, and her impact on those around her will never be forgotten.
