Virginia Blackwood passed away on November 29, 2016, at the Eliza Coffee Hospital in Florence, AL. Departing this life, her pain is now gone and she remains forever at rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was Born in Holly Pond, Alabama on April 11, 1930, the second of five daughters to William Ottis and Florence Hyatt. She was preceded in death by her husband James Roy Blackwood and her daughter Rhonda Blackwood.
She was treasured by her survivors: a daughter, Vickie (Charles) Ferrell; two granddaughters, Tonya Mayo and Nikki (Geoff) McGukin; four great grandsons, Lance (Jessica) Walker, Nikolas Mayo, Jackson McGukin, and Jesse Mayo; one great granddaughter, Isabella McGukin; and three sisters, Doris Hurt, Peggy Windsor, and Fay Jernigan.
She was a life-long member of New Hope Number Two Missionary Baptist Church. She was a hard worker and devoted much of her life and energy as a caregiver to family members. She had a passion for sewing and was very skilled at it. She enjoyed getting together with her sisters and the rest of the family to sing gospel songs.
Visitation will be at Holly Pond Funeral Home from 6 until 8 pm on Thursday night. Funeral services will be at the New Hope Number Two Baptist Church near Holly Pond at 2 pm on Friday, December 2, 2016. Patrick Morton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hope Number Two Baptist Church or to the New Hope Number Two Cemetery Fund.
